I always believed in standards….in GARRISON. THIS Sergeant Major enforced clean weapons, fed and hydrated soldiers, maintained equipment and informed soldiers. The places we were sent to were so bad that our standard phrase was “EMBRACE THE SUCK” I would never make my soldiers lives more difficult and stressful by playing stupid, Garrison BS games with them. My Battalion always had the highest moral and least casualties in the entire Brigade.

I had friends in the marines, way past the Middle East big conflicts, I asked one if Generations Kill is accurate to what it’s like, he said it’s flashy but Sixta was the most accurate.

I love this SGM! “You jeopardize every Marine because you lost your hemlet!!” He truly cared about his Marines, he respected the good NCO’s like SGT Colbert and he never NJP anyone despite the fact he was all talk and flamboyance. We had a FSG like him in the Army, but that actor in the series got the whole military persona and posture of an E8/9 absolutely right on target!!

Yes , its a movie, but to think people like this are promoted in the ranks.. these are the kind of leaders who get fragged by their own people at some point.

I have mixed feelings seeing this and remembering actual guys just this way. Such authorities were a pain, but if you give Marines an inch, they take a mile. Soldiers are 10 times worse. I was in the Army and USMC. To get the mission done, you need pain-in-the-ass guys like this sergeant major.
